We’re excited to share that Canvas has integrated with YouTube’s education player, allowing ad-free YouTube videos to be used directly in Canvas Studio. This provides a distraction-free, privacy-focused, and accessible experience for students.
With this new integration, faculty who use YouTube content in their courses are encouraged to upload or embed videos through Canvas Studio rather than directly from YouTube. Key benefits include:
- Accessibility: YouTube closed captions remain available for students.
- No distractions: Videos play without ads, recommendations, or external YouTube links.
- Privacy: Students view videos in a “signed out” state, keeping them anonymous.
IMPORTANT: Beginning September 22, 2025, YouTube videos embedded in Canvas without Canvas Studio may display ads. We recommend updating your course content before this date.
To help you get started, Canvas has published a step-by-step instructional guide and FAQs. If you would like assistance migrating your video content, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@vanguard.edu, and they would be happy to walk through the process with you.
