Use Flexible Canvas Course Templates

Teaching + Learning has designed and built course templates that incorporate principles from James Lang’s “Small Teaching” and a Flipped Learning version of Blooms Taxonomy that detail pre-class, in class, and post-class best practices.  This “build it once” approach allows you to design for 100% flexibility and adapt and teach for your context.

Flexible Course Template in Canvas Commons

The following course templates, that can be imported into your course, are available for download in Canvas Commons.

  • 8 Module/1 Live Sessions Per Module Flexible
  • 8 Module/2 Live Sessions Per Module Flexible

Copy the name of the template you would like and paste it into the Commons search area. Access Commons by clicking the ‘Commons’ icon on the left Canvas navigation bar.

Using the Templates

View documentation on how to import these templates into your course. (If importing into your official course shell, make sure it is empty or it will overwrite your content. It is recommended that you create a course from scratch to import into.) Please contact ifd@vanguard.edu for any questions regarding the use of the templates. View a Video that shows you how to best use the templates to improve student learning, to save you time, and to make sure you meet your credit hour requirements.

Adjusting the Template to Fit Your Course Type or Length

The available Flexible templates are the ‘8 Module/1 Live Session’ and the ‘8 Module/2 Live Session’ versions. Please consult the following resources to adjust your template to fit your course type or length (these resources are meant to be used with the 8/2 template but the same principles apply for the 8/1 version):

Copy Your 8/2 Template Course and Change it to 8/1

Copy Your 8/2 Template Course and Change it to Asynchronous Online

Copy Your 8/2 Template Course and Change it to 16/1

Copy Your 8/2 Template Course and Change it to 16/2
