LEVERAGE THE LIBRARY

The library’s website is the best starting point for accessing our collection of books, journals and databases. The most valuable resource in the library is the library staff! Contact us if you have any questions, or if you have suggestions for new services, research guides, book purchases, journal subscriptions or databases. Even if we are not able to add a particular resource to the collection, you can request it via interlibrary loan.

RESERVE COURSE MATERIALS

You can place course readings and textbooks on reserve in the library. This is particularly helpful in reducing student cost and allowing the library to maximize the use of its collections. More information about course reserves is available on the Faculty Course Reserves LibGuide.

If you plan to use individual journal articles or select portions of a particular book for class readings:

• The best option is to add links in Canvas to Open Access materials. By using Open Access content you pass savings along to your students (by reducing textbook and library subscription costs).
• The next best option is to add links in Canvas to articles or books already in one of the library’s online collections. See the Article Linking LibGuide for information on providing permanent links that will allow students to access library resources off-campus.
• The final option is to upload a PDF of the course reading to Canvas.
  • The library has both an overhead scanner and a flat-bed scanner that faculty can use to produce scans. Contact the library staff for help with scanning.
  • When providing scans of documents, it is important to consider issues of intellectual property, copyright, and fair use.
