Active Learning In Practice With Dr. Paul Hwang

Last Thursday, a group of faculty from a variety of disciplines was able to participate in the inaugural Active Learning in Practice Series session Mission: Possible – Nutrient Timing Strategies led by Dr. Paul Hwang. This workshop series aims to provide faculty with examples of active learning done within the context of various faculty disciplines and various classroom environments.

To kick us off, Dr. Paul Hwang facilitated an incredible active learning session within one of the specifically designed active learning classrooms in the Freed Center.  He led us through learning about topics like nutrient timing and cost analysis and showed us how we can design a one-day meal for an assigned target with a strict budget. Even though this session was mainly focused on nutrition, the activity types and pedagogical approaches used can easily be implemented in other disciplines and learning spaces. An Active Learning in Practice Wakelet (a collection of Active Learning resources) was provided for faculty that will grow in scope as future sessions are offered and faculty get a chance to put into practice what they have learned.

Thanks to Michael A. Fukuda from Vanguard’s marketing department for capturing the joy and delight we all felt getting to learn in community for Mission : Possible through these photos.

Teaching + Learning, in collaboration with faculty from a variety of disciplines, will be offering more sessions in Fall of 2025 and beyond. Stay Tuned!
