Google has announced the discontinuation of Jamboard, its collaborative digital whiteboard tool, by the end of the year. Several other alternatives offer similar features for collaborative teaching:
- Miro: A leading digital whiteboard platform, Miro offers extensive features for collaboration, including sticky notes, diagrams, and templates.
- Microsoft Whiteboard: Part of the Microsoft 365 suite, Microsoft Whiteboard provides a simple, intuitive interface for real-time collaboration.
- Padlet: Padlet is a versatile tool that allows educators to create boards, documents, and web pages that are easy to share and collaborate on.
Transition Tips for Faculty
As Jamboard sunsets, faculty should consider the following steps to ensure a smooth transition:
- Explore Tools Early: Begin testing alternative tools as soon as possible so you can find the one that best fits your teaching approach and classroom needs.
- Transfer Content: Save and export any important content from Jamboard to avoid having to recreate everything from scratch.
- Learn and Adapt: Search YouTube for tutorials on how other faculty are using these tools as viable alternatives.
