Dr. John Mark Robeck

Associate Professor, Theology

Dr. John Mark Robeck is Associate Professor of Theology, Ethics, and Culture at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California.   He holds a B.A. in Cross Cultural and Urban Studies (Southern California College), an M.Div. (Fuller Theological Seminary) and a Ph.D. in Religion: Theology, Ethics, and Culture (Claremont Graduate University).  Dr. Robeck is an ordained minister within the Assemblies of God, having been in ministry for over 20 years, while also serving the academy, teaching both in the United States and Central America.  Before joining the resident faculty of Vanguard University, Dr. Robeck served as the Academic Director of the Center for Community Transformation, a branch of ENLACE in El Salvador.  His dissertation, Towards a Pentecostal Theology of Praxis, provides a case study of Pentecostal churches engaged in community transformation in El Salvador, while also analyzing the connection between Pentecostal and Liberation Theology.  His continued research interests lie in the study of Latin American theologies, the history of the Pentecostal church in Latin America, Pentecostal social engagement, global Pentecostalism, race and ethnicity in American religion, and post-colonial theologies, among others.
