On March 4th, 2021, a group of faculty joined Alex Lin in a Zoom session devoted to games! We were able to both learn and play some games that you may be familiar with, but in a new way – through Zoom. Alex got everyone involved in playing games just for the fun of it and to build community.
We played the following games:
Pictionary: A team game where the goal is to have your team guess words correctly only using drawings.
Scattergories: A game that challenges players to score points by uniquely naming objects within a set of categories, given an initial letter, within a time limit.

Taboo: A team game where the objective of the game is for a player to have their partners guess the word on the player’s card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card.

Our group had a great time laughing and playing together and learned how we could integrate the same type of games in our own classrooms. Thanks again to Alex for leading this great session! It was a great break from our normal day to day responsibilities and helped us get to know one another in a new way.
While the intent of these games were to simply have fun together and to build community, there are also games that are available online that allow professors the ability to customize questions and terms, to give students the chance to review course content and have fun at the same time.
